Belmont School Based Mentoring

The Community Education Alliance of West Philadelphia recognizes the benefits of educated adult role models serving as mentors to BCS and FCS students. Positive adult-youth relationships can encourage students to stay in school, help students set and achieve goals, and help students to develop healthy and happy attitudes.

Therefore, at CEAWP, students receive mentoring from either a teacher different than their own or from an area college student. Students meet with their mentors once per month during their lunch time or during the Belmont After School Program. All mentors go through an extensive orientation process.

The mentor and mentees have time to talk, to get to know each other, and establish common interests. They can also participate in activities together such as arts and crafts, games, and athletics. The diversity of mentor-mentee activities allow the students to experience the support and encouragement of their mentor in a variety of ways.
