Academic Counseling
The Community Education Alliance of West Philadelphia understands the importance of guiding children through the education process and making them an active part of the process. For this reason, CEAWP provides the students and families of BCS and FCS with academic counseling beginning in grade 3. As CEAWP strives to instill in its students the importance of continuing their education, CEAWP is committed to offering academic counseling to promote and help students develop healthy attitudes towards school.
Academic Counseling involves every aspect of a child’s development that affects their classroom performance as well as their lives outside of the classroom experience. They work with teachers to connect struggling students with appropriate tutoring, they guide parents through the educational process, and they serve as a readily available resource for students.
Pillars of Academic Counseling
1. Teacher support: Each student has a different learning style and some require more additional academic help than others. For this reason, the academic counselors ensure that struggling students receive tutoring either through the Belmont After School Program or through an outside source.
2. Parent and student support: A student is far more likely to succeed in school if his/her parents are actively involved in the child’s life, particularly with their school life. The academic counselors demonstrate an intense commitment to reaching out to all parents and encouraging their involvement. The academic counselors work with parents and students in the following areas:
